Industrial
& Marine Engines is a business area that supplies Scania engines in
customized versions for use as power sources in earth moving, forestry and
agricultural machines, in generator sets and in commercial vessels and pleasure craft.
The manufacture of industrial and marine engines is of strategic significance,
subjecting Scania engines to direct market comparison in terms of quality and
performance as well as price.
Our Products Scania develops industrial and marine engines from its basic range
of vehicle engines, which have swept volumes of 9, 12 or 14 litres and
outputs of 200-800 hp. The engines are purpose-built to fit specific
requirements, for example in terms of performance, power transmission, cooling
systems, starting and stopping characteristics and instrumentation.
They must withstand very heavy workloads,
offer good fuel consumption, be reliable and provide low life-cycle cost, while
meeting current and future exhaust emission standards.
Historical Development The history of Scania engines dates back to 1897, when Gustaf Erikson
designed the engine for Sweden’s first motor vehicle. Since then the company
has grown to become one of the world’s most experienced engine designers and
manufactures – as well as being a leading manufacturer of heavy trucks and
buses. Scania engines are used throughout the world for industrial, marine and
generator set applications.
In fact, 97% of the production is absorbed by markets outside Sweden and
supported by a Scania network with operations in some 100 countries.
The
assembly lines are constructed according to the latest production technology with assembly groups which
independently take
responsibility for the respective assembly parts. Besides increased production capacity, the
assembly lines also gives more flexible
production - providing improved preconditions for the continued
improvement of product quality.
Great importance has been placed on environmentally-friendly
production and therefore surplus materials are recycled in accordance
with the regulations in Scania's environmental policy.
The modular system of the engines, effectively contributes to a lower
impact on the environment. Each engine can be tailored to the needs of
the customer.
With fewer components used to build the
complete range, carefully considered choice of materials and processes
and high product quality, the consumption of energy and raw materials
will be lower. This leads to lower environmental load throughout the lifecycle of the engine - from development and
production, via service and repairs, to scrapping and recycling.
