| World class service at Marina |
When Emmar was looking for a professional organisation to assist in the commissioning of its new chillers at the Dubai Marina, it had to look no further than Al Shirawi US Chillers service providers.
"The Dubai Marina has a sophisticated, world class chiller plant," explained Dan Mizesko, Managing Partner, Al Shirawi US Chillers. "Our Global Service Engineers were able to take preventive measures in order to ensure that the chillers were
commissioned properly. We supervised the installation company and the OEM in carrying out the necessary repair work. The result was that the Marina had reliable chilled water supply throughout summer.
Al Shirawi US Chillers also has a Technical Support Program service agreement to maintain chillers at all Emaar facilities.

| Office fit out done in record time |
Staff at the Belhoul Group's corporate offices in Dubai are now enjoying their plush new offices thanks to turnkey fit out works al Shirawi finished in record time.
In just 75 days Al Shirawi carried out complate interior workson three floors of the building,which is located in Garhoud. The job involved the installation of partitions, ceilings, air conditioners, floorings, fire safety systems and electrics.
Joinery and minor civil works were also carried out. Raj Pal Saran, General Manager, Al Shirawi Contracting, Interiors Division, said both Belhoul and the consultant/designer, Arki Design Dubai, Are very happy with the overall result.
He added that Ani Chacko, Assistant Manager, Sales and planning and Lakshman Kumer, Site Engineer, played a crucial role in the coordination and successful execution of the project.
A highlight of the job was constructing the curved glass wall structing the curved glass wall (picture above). It was the first time Al Shirawi had installed a wall of this type.

Following the successful completion of the first phase of knowledge Village , the service of Al Shirawi Contracting were sought again by the contractor to undertake the waterproofing of Phase II of the project.
“It was logical for Al Shirawi Contracting to be awarded the phase two waterproofing works for all the effort that went into the completion of phase one,” said S Sekhar,
General Manager, Al Shirawi Contracting. The Phase I works, which were completed recently, involved the waterproofing of 10,000m2 of roof area, 5,000m2 of wet area and approximately 5,000m2 of landscape waterproofing – all done simultaneously.
Throughout the course of the project the company had to coordinate with two contractors – Al Basti Al Mukhta (the main contractor) for landscape waterproofing.
During the peak time of the project, the company had to mobilize three foam concrete machines to keep in pace ewith the programme.
For the waterproofing and landscaping work Al Shirawi used Bitumat Premierflex 2000, a 5mm thick SBS (styrene butadiene styrene) membrane from Bitumat , Saudi Arabia . Rooftex liquid applied polyurethane from Conren , UK –was used for the wet areas.
“The materials used for the project have a very good track record of being usedin several prestigious projects both within the UAE and internationally. Being an ISO 9000 certified company, we undertook strict quality inspections to ensure the best results for the main contractor, consultant and client,” Sekhar said.
He said the project was completed on time and the company is proud of being associated with such an important project.

Al Shirawi Electrical and Mechanical Engineering recently completed air conditioning, electrical and plumbing work in a prestigious building for one of its most valued clients, Fardan Ali Fardan Al Fardan.
The nine-story building, which is located in the main business district of Bur Dubai, comprises of 64 flats in the upper eight floors and a commercial shopping space on the ground floor. The main contractor for the project was Saleh Construction and the
consultant was Al Hashemi & Associates. “We started the MEP works in this project in June 2003 and completed it in early September 2004, well on time and to the complete satisfaction of the client and consultant,” said S. Sekhar, General Manager, Al Shirawi Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
The building features air conditioning units from Rheem , USA and they ensure a comfortable environment for those living and working in the building.
Following the success of this job both the client and consultant are now negotiating with Al Shirawi for two other significant projects to be carried out in the near future.

The work involved cleaning the hotel’s water tanks and kitchen ducts, ensuring any potentially harmful grime was removed.

Al Shirawi is currently reviewing the documentation and processes for its ISO 9001-2000 certification.
“We are working through the system to eliminate redundancies and add more controls. It is a refinement of the current system,” said V. Ravikumar, Business Development Manager.Al Shirawi Electrical and Mechanical Engineering first qualified to ISO standard 9002 in 1996 and requalified to the new ISO 9001-2001 in November 2003
The company is certified by KPMG Quality Registrar, and the process and documentation undergo continuous surveillance assessment.
The review during this third cycle is seen as an ideal time to update and realign the paperwork to the working practice. Sunanda Panikkar, a consultant from KPMG who is working with Ravikumar explained: “Over time the actual systems used changes, as the work pratices develop. Sometimes we find the activities no longer refelect the documentation. We need to review the system to find out whether the documentation should be brought up to date, or if the work practice should be changed.”
The review process is expected to take two to three months,with a further one a half months to implement the new processes.
| VisionWood plant to have unmatched machinery |

VisionWood, Al Shirawi’s wood-working division, is set to open a State-of-the-art plant in Dubai that will feature machinery from Europe ’s leading equipment manufacturers.It recently signed a deal with Technologica Middle East, distributors of wood working equipment, which will supply machinery for the plant.
“We have chosen a range of machinery that will allow us to provide unmatched woodworking services in the UAE,” said Raj Pal Saran, General Manager, Al Shirawi Contracting, Interiors Division. The plant is located at Al Quoz.
The equipment includes:
Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) router borer machine, beam saw and edge bander (both are Programmable Logic Controlled) from HOLZ-HER, Austria .
Six-head multiple spindle moulder from Weinig , Germany .
Duplex wide belt sander from kundig, Switzerland .
Fully automated polishing spray system from Cefla , Italy , including pressurized flash off system.
Centralised dust collection system for the entire factory from DISA, Denmark .
The machines are expected to arrive in Dubai soon with the plant becoming operational in January 2005. A number of experienced people have been hired to work in the plant.
“All of our interiors division customers have been very kind in giving us a lot of business over the years,” Raj said. “We’re now hoping they will be equally supportive of VisionWood and we are excited about working with them further through this new venture.”
